Quantities, timing, and liquor โ the questions every host runs into.
Plan on 2 to 4 jello shots per guest for a casual party, or 4 to 6 for a heavier-drinking crowd. A jello shot is roughly a quarter of a regular shot, so they go fast. For 25 guests, 75 to 100 shots is a safe middle.
A standard batch uses one 3 oz box of gelatin with 1 cup boiling water and 1 cup cold liquid, with the cold cup split between vodka and cold water. About half a cup of vodka per box gives a noticeable but balanced kick; three-quarters of a cup is strong. One 3 oz box yields roughly 10 shots.
Make them 1 to 3 days ahead. They need at least 3 to 4 hours to set, and longer is better. Keep them refrigerated and covered; they hold well for several days.
About 10 shots per 3 oz box when poured into standard 2 oz plastic cups filled partway. The planner calculates the exact box count for your design automatically.
Vodka is the standard because it is neutral and lets the flavor come through. Rum, tequila, and flavored vodkas also work. Avoid using too much high-proof alcohol, since excess alcohol stops the gelatin from setting.
